Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am Viewership Braces A Steep Drop This Year

2019-06-20 08:50:16
The Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am happened last weekend and it didn’t go nearly as well as Epic would have hoped. Compared to 2018 Pro-Am which drew significant viewership, this year, Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am viewership on Twitch is down greatly, 72% to be exact, leading many to wonder what the future of competitive Fortnite looks like.

The pro-am tournament was held in the Banc of California Stadium in Los Angeles, and featured a $3M charity prize pool. The contestants were a 50/50 mix of Fortnite streamers and celebrities, and comprised three matches: a solo and duo warm-up, and a main duos competition.

Why Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am Viwership Drop so sharply this year?

When comes to the reason why viewrship decrease sharply, fortunately, there are a variety of reasons coming into play, other than Fortnite just becoming less popular.

First, one of the main ones being Fortnite's popularity isn't at the same level as it was a year ago.
In addition, Nobody had seen an Epic-sponsored Fortnite event before the Celebrity Pro-Am in 2018, that meant a lot of people would tune in out of curiosity. With a year of events under our belts, Fortnite fans are not curious about Fortnite Celebrity Pro-Am event as last year.

Another factor could be that the competitive scene has shifted so much and it might not result in a pleasant viewing experience anymore.

Besides, the date and time of the event caused a lot of problems. The main event was held on Father’s Day, a day many spend with their families and it’s unlikely your Dad wanted to watch Fortnite.

Nowadays, no ones watching fortnite for the esport, everyone watches for the personalities. That’s why the official fortnite channel is a graveyard while tfue and ninja have 300k viewers.

Check here. This was fortnite AM last year, the timeline tells the picture pretty well.

And mostly fortnite players are casual players since there is no ranked. Also lots of streamers stopped playing competitive. Whenever I've seen a kid playing Fortnite, it's been in the context of hanging out with friends, not winning the game. And I don't mean that as an insult, it just seems like competition is not the reason anyone plays.
