Destiny 2: A Complete Guide of Gauntlet Reload Speed Perks

2019-06-29 08:45:25

Many players get confused with actual effects of reload perks on Destiny 2. Thanks to Redditer “ u/Shuckle230”, he made a post on Reddit, detailing the effects of Reload speed perks. In addition, he also testified that Reload perks do stack with Ophidian Aspect.

“ Reload speed perks are divided into three tiers based on what the perk description reads:
Tier 1: Slightly Increases. (Kinetic Weapon Loader, Energy Weapon Loader, and Power Weapon Loader).
Tier 2: Increases / Faster Reload. (All of the specific weapon loaders, Rifle Loader, Light Arms Loader, and Large Arms Loader).
Tier 3: Greatly Increases. (All Enhanced Loader perks).

The bonuses each tier gives are the following:
Tier 1: +10-+15 to Reload Speed Stat.
Tier 2: +20 to Reload Speed Stat.
Tier 3: +25-+30 to Reload Speed Stat.
Ophidian Aspects: +40 to Reload Speed Stat.

Based on that data I would recommend using Rifle Loader, Light Arms Loader, and Large Arms Loader over anything else. These three loader perks give the same Reload Speed bonus as the specific weapon type ones do, but they affect various weapon types. Rifle Loader affects Pulses, Scouts, Autos, Snipers, Fusions, and Linear Fusions. Light Arms Loader affects Hand Cannons, Sidearms, SMGs, and Bows. Large Arms Loader affects Shotguns, Rockets, and Grenade Launchers. So you really only need three different pairs of gauntlets to have reload speed bonuses for every type of gun.

Also Ophidian Aspects have the best reload perk in the game, giving +40 to every weapon type. If you want to reload all of your guns very quickly, use these.

Testing Methods:

To test Tier 2 reload perks I took a West of Sunfall 7, tested its reload speed with HCR and no reload speed perk (118 frames), then tested it with Extended Mag (which gives -20 to reload according to light.gg) and no reload perk (138 frames), and finally tested it with Extended Mag and Light Arms Loader (118 frames). I also did this same test with HC Loader and got the same results.

Knowing that, I could test Ophidian Aspects. To do this I again used WoS7 only this time with HCR and LAL (so overall +20 to reload giving a reload of 100 frames), then tested it with Extended Mag and Ophidian Aspects, which gave a reload speed of 101 frames. So Ophidian Aspects are giving very close to +40 to reload speed.

Kinetic Weapon Loader is giving me some trouble, it seems to be between +10-+15. I tested KWL on my Bygones by using it with Flared Magwell and no reload perk (FM gives +15 reload according to light.gg) giving a reload of 57 frames. After that I tested it without FM (so 15 less reload speed from last test) with KWL, this gave a reload of 58 frames. I then tested KWL on a Trackless Waste with Light Mag (+10 on light.gg) and no perk (66 frames). And without Light Mag but KWL (64 frames). So KWL is definitely giving more than +10, but maybe slightly less than +15.

Enhanced Hand Cannon Loader is giving +25 or +30. I'm not entirely sure which because I will have to get a HC to drop with both Extended Mag and Light Mag to test it.”

This post makes me think that other perks have counterintuitive logic as well. For example,
Precision Targeting Vs Hand Cannon Targeting/Bow Targeting/etc
Scatter Targeting Vs Pulse Rifle Targeting/Fusion Targeting/etc

This testing showed that type specific Reload = general class specific reload. So would the same hold true everywhere? Some players explain that it depends on whether the perk says slightly or not. The slightly ones are less effective than the specific perks. A few of the generalized perks for each perk-set do not say slightly. Ones that reference a particular inventory space are the ones that say slightly, iirc. (Kinetic, Energy, & Power)
